    Clinical introduction

    A woman in her early 80s with jaundice visited our hospital. Close examination revealed that her jaundice was obstructive due to stones in the terminal portion of the common bile duct (CBD). CT showed that the terminal portion of CBD was prompted to the duodenal lumen (figure 1A, arrow). Duodenoscopy showed a smooth hemispherical mass protruding into the duodenal lumen (figure 1B), and the ampullary orifice was identified at the anal side of this mass (figure 1C).
