Principally, basic physician training has increased from 2 to 3 years and higher training will reduce from 5 to 4 years. As part of these changes a new gastroenterology curriculum, which was recently published, will be introduced from August 2022, with all existing trainees except those in their final year expected to transition to the new curriculum, as per General Medical Council guidance.1 2 A major change is that trainees will be assessed using high-level capabilities in practice rather than on disease-specific domains.
